About 4,144 households this Monday received free smartphones under the challenge campaign dubbed, Connect Rwanda that started in 2019 in the country, beneficiaries came from seven districts including Gicumbi, Gatsibo, Nyabihu, Ngororero, Huye, Gisagara and Bugesera.
The Minister of State for Local Government, Gatabazi Jean Marie Vianney, who presided over the event in Gicumbi District with about 1065 donations, commended the partners who have continued to support the Connect Rwanda program.
He urged the recipients of the telephones to use them to show the progress, and benefits in their respective communities; while sharing information.
The Minister of Technology and Innovation Ingabire Paula, led a similar campaign in Bugesera District distributing 566 telephones, said that through partnerships with partners the campaign will become easier for people to own modern telephones.
“We will work with various partners to create a sustainable way to make it easier for people to own modern phones,” she said.
Mitwa Ng’ambi, CEO of MTN Rwanda said that the process of providing modern telephones to the people has reached an exciting level and is helping the households to use technology.
“It simply came to our notice then. These phones will make it easier for recipients to enter the world of technology. It will also help them find solutions based on technology, which will benefit their lives. ”
