On Thursday, Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango received 1,000 metric tonnes of relief maize from Rwanda. The food aid, delivered by Ambassador Emmanuel Bugingo, responds to Zambia’s ongoing drought crisis.
Vice President Nalumango, speaking at the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) sheds in Lusaka, emphasized the immediate and significant impact of the relief on the government’s efforts to alleviate hunger and provide support to those in need. “The relief maize will ensure that food-insecure households across the affected districts have access to the necessary sustenance, bringing hope to families grappling with this emergency situation,” she stated.
Rwandan High Commissioner to Zambia, Emmanuel Bugingo, pledged Rwanda’s continued support whenever possible and expressed confidence that the donation would help feed the most affected Zambian families. He also thanked the Zambian government for allocating 10,000 hectares of land to Rwanda for agricultural use, highlighting that this partnership could eventually serve as a sustainable solution to food security issues in both countries.
Vice President Nalumango indicated that the donation symbolizes the strong bond of friendship between the two countries and reflects Rwanda’s commitment to standing by Zambia during times of crisis. She noted that the maize donation is not merely a transfer of food but a lifeline extended from one nation to another, representing hope and solidarity.
“Let us remember the importance of unity in times of crisis. Let us continue to support one another and work together to build a future where no one goes hungry or feels abandoned during their time of need,” she added.
