Team Australia has announced a strong lineup for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, set to take place in Kigali from 21 to 28 September. This year’s event will mark a historic milestone as the World Championships head to Africa for the first time.

The Australian squad features a balanced mix of elite veterans and emerging U23 talent, prepared to tackle the punishing Rwandan courses known for their steep climbs and high altitude.

Australia’s elite women’s roster brings both experience and fresh strength. Giro d’Italia stage winner Neve Bradbury headlines the team alongside Amanda Spratt, who adds leadership and tactical experience. National time trial champion Brodie Chapman, along with Alexandra Manly, Lauretta Hanson, and Ruby Roseman-Gannon, round out a versatile squad.

The men’s lineup is spearheaded by Jai Hindley, winner of the Giro d’Italia, supported by Michael Matthews, a proven contender in World Championship races. The team also includes Luke Plapp, Michael Storer, Jay Vine, Chris Hamilton, Chris Harper, and Callum Scotson, offering a strong combination of climbing ability, time trial power, and all-round racing skills.

In the under-23 women’s division, Alli Anderson, Mackenzie Coupland, and Felicity Wilson-Haffenden will represent Australia, while Zac Marriage, Hamish McKenzie, Jack Ward, and Matthew Greenwood line up in the men’s U23 events.

Australia will also defend its title in the Mixed Relay Team Time Trial, having claimed the rainbow jersey in 2024. Four of last year’s champions return for the event, positioning the team as strong contenders to repeat their success.

The 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda will feature demanding courses, with the elite women’s road race including over 3,300 metres of climbing and the men’s race nearly 5,500 metres. The terrain is expected to favour climbers and resilient all-rounders.

Cycling Australia expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to deliver results: “This is one of the most balanced and competitive teams we’ve ever sent to the Worlds. Kigali’s courses are tough, but our riders are ready to meet the challenge.”
