At Huye Stadium, Rwanda football team, Amavubi defeated South Africa 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers this Tuesday evening, November 21.
Before the opening hour, innocent Nshuti opened the scoring for Rwanda by slotting the ball into the net in the 13th minute. Gilbert Mugisha then added a second goal in the 27th minute.
Rwanda’s threat was clear from the off, with attempts from strikers firing over the bar. Rwandan head coach Spittler brought on Patrick Sibomana and Pappy for Lague Byiringiro
As the game entered the second half, Bafana Bafana attempted to pull back one, but it looked as though they lost because the strikers couldn’t make contact to overcome the Amavubi defense that was compact in the 18 yard box.
In the 73′ minute, Rwanda gaffer Frank Spittler made a couple of changes and brought on Claude Niyomugabo for Gilbert Mugisha.
As Bafana Bafana pushed for a consolation goal, Rwanda kept their back line strong with Ange Mutsinzi and Emmanuel Imanishimwe ensuring their victory over Bafana Bafana.
Literally, this will be the first time ever for Rwanda to defeat South Africa in a recognized meeting between the two sides.
South Africa came into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Benin, while Rwanda bagged a point in their 0-0 stalemate with Zimbabwe last week.
Rwanda tops Group C, with four points, South Africa has three points, Nigeria is third with 2 points and Lesotho has two points and Zimbabwe has two points and Benin has one point.
