Rwanda Gets New Prime Minister as Kagame Picks Nsengiyumva

Dr Justin Nsengiyumva appointed as Rwanda's new Prime Minister

This Wednesday, 23 July 2025, President Paul Kagame appointed Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva as the new Prime Minister, replacing Edouard Ngirente who had held the position since 2017.

Until his appointment, Nsengiyumva was the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), a position he had held since February of this year.

A former Permanent Secretary in both the Ministry of Trade and also in the Ministry of Education, Nsengiyumva holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.
