President Paul Kagame has reappointed Dr. Edouard Ngirente as Prime Minister of Rwanda following his recent election for a new five-year term. President Kagame, who was sworn in on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in a ceremony attended by at least 22 heads of state, has once again entrusted Dr. Ngirente with the role of leading the government.
Dr. Edouard Ngirente, 51, is a seasoned economist and politician who has served as Rwanda’s Prime Minister since August 30, 2017. Before his initial appointment as Prime Minister, Dr. Ngirente was a Senior Advisor to the World Bank’s Director-General. He also served as a Senior Advisor to the World Bank’s Executive Director from 2011 to 2017.
In addition to his international experience, Dr. Ngirente held several key positions within Rwanda’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), including Senior Economic Advisor and Director General of the National Development and Research Program. He also served as a lecturer at the former National University of Rwanda (NUR) until 2010.
