A new direct air route between Kigali and Muscat has been launched, creating a new connection between Rwanda and Oman expected to support the movement of passengers, business and goods between the two countries.

Oman-based low-cost carrier SalamAir will  start operating the route on Tuesday, with the inaugural flight marking the airline’s entry into Rwanda and its latest expansion into Africa.

The launch was announced during a ceremony at Muscat International Airport attended by officials from SalamAir, Oman Airports, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Embassy of Rwanda in Oman, aviation partners, travel and tourism representatives and members of the media.

Rwanda’s Ambassador to Oman, Lieutenant General Dan Munyoza, said the new route represents an important step in strengthening relations between the two countries.

“The launch of direct flights between Kigali and Muscat marks a significant milestone in strengthening air connectivity between the Republic of Rwanda and the Sultanate of Oman,” Munyoza said.

He said the service would help increase the movement of travellers and goods while creating more opportunities in tourism, trade and investment.

SalamAir Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hamilton-Mans said the Kigali route was an important addition to the airline’s international network as it continues expanding into new markets.

“The launch of our flights to Kigali represents a new and important milestone in SalamAir’s growth journey,” he said.

Hamilton-Mans said the airline would continue focusing on affordable travel while connecting passengers to destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.

SalamAir will fly two weekly flights between Muscat and Kigali, providing travellers with a direct option between the two cities and access to the airline’s wider network.

The airline opened ticket sales for the route on April 30, 2026, ahead of the first scheduled flight on July 21. An official delegation from Oman travelled on the inaugural service to mark the launch.

The new route adds to Rwanda’s growing international air connections and is expected to provide additional options for travellers while supporting closer economic and tourism ties between Rwanda and Oman.
