Abdallah Murenzi has stepped down as president of Rwanda Cycling federation (Ferwacy), reports emerge.
The decision by Murenzi who is under investigation follows suspicion of being an accomplice on charges of making decisions based on favouritism, which federation Secretary General Benoit Munyankindi is suspected to have engaged in before he was arrested by Rwanda investigation Bureau (RIB).
The president is accused of knowing about the Munyankindi actions but decided not to act.
In addition, reports also emerge that Alphonse Nkuranga, the federation’s Executive Director has also resigned.
Murenzi stepped down after four years in office, he was appointed as interim president in 2019 replacing Aimable Bayingana who also resigned from the top position.
The former mayor of Nyanzas district and Rayon Sports president got elected as cycling federation president in 2021, on a four year term.
