Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco was re-elected, Monday June 06, 2022, in New York, for a third consecutive term (2023-2027) as a member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), in the person of Hynd Ayoubi Idrissi, following the elections held on the occasion of the 19th Meeting of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Competing against 13 candidates for the 9 vacant seats on the Committee, Hynd Ayoubi Idrissi was elected in the first round with 137 votes thanks to a campaign that mobilized Morocco’s entire diplomatic apparatus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

This success of the Moroccan candidacy testifies to the credibility of the Kingdom’s efforts in protecting, respecting and promoting human rights, in particular those of children, who receive special attention from HM King Mohammed VI, the ministry said in a statement.

The outcome of this application illustrates, once more, the confidence that the international community has in the competence and expertise that Morocco brings to the UN system of human rights, as well as the relevance of the strategy of the Kingdom, which aims to consolidate its presence in the United Nations and other international organizations, in accordance with the Royal Directions, according to the same source.

Doctor in Human Rights, university professor, and international consultant in the field of children’s rights, the Moroccan expert has succeeded, during her first two mandates, in gaining the esteem of her counterparts and States Parties thanks to her substantial contribution to the work of the CRC and her proven commitment to the fulfillment of her mandate, particularly in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This new mandate will allow the Moroccan expert to continue the work she started in favor of reinforcing the integrality and cross-cutting nature of the rights of the child and monitoring the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the working methods of the Committee, the Ministry added.

The CRC is the body of 18 independent experts that monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by its State parties. Its members are elected for a renewable four-year term of office.
