The National Electoral Commission (NEC) released provisional results of the presidential elections showing that Paul Kagame won the poll with 99.15% of the vote. The FPR Inkotanyi candidate was elected to continue leading Rwanda for the next five years.
NEC reported that Paul Kagame received 99.15% of the vote, Dr. Frank Habineza of Green Party of Rwanda received 0.53%, and independent candidate Mpayimana Philippe received 0.32%.
For Rwandans living abroad, NEC indicated that provisional results showed a voter turnout of 52.73% out of 40,675 votes. In the diaspora, Paul Kagame was elected by 95.40%, Dr. Frank Habineza received 2.15%, and Mpayimana Philippe received 2.45%.
The National Electoral Commission indicated that during the elections held on Monday, July 15, for Rwandans in the country, the Northern Province had 77.87% of the votes provisionally counted, amounting to 1,151,970 votes. Paul Kagame was elected with 99.65%, Dr. Frank Habineza received 0.27%, and Mpayimana Philippe got 0.08%.
In the Southern Province, with a population of 1,615,265, 78.57% of the votes were counted. In this province, Paul Kagame was elected with 98.60%, Dr. Frank Habineza with 0.73%, and Mpayimana Philippe obtained 0.67%.
In the Eastern Province, with 78.65% of the votes counted, representing 1,766,799 people, Paul Kagame led with 99.30% of the votes, Dr. Frank Habineza received 0.66%, and Mpayimana Philippe got 0.05%.
The Western Province, with a population of 1,607,932 and 78.86% of the votes counted, saw Paul Kagame elected with 99.60% of the votes. He was followed by Mpayimana Philippe with 0.29% and Dr. Frank Habineza with 0.11%.
In the City of Kigali, provisional results show Kagame was elected with 98.59%, Dr. Frank Habineza with 0.96%, and Mpayimana Philippe obtained 0.44%.
After the announcement of the election results, Paul Kagame thanked Rwandans for their choices during these elections. He also congratulated his family, who supported him during the campaign and were a pillar for him.
Paul Kagame expressed deep gratitude for the trust Rwandans have shown in him, stating that this trust gives him the strength to avoid disappointment. He emphasized that he is convinced of working with Rwandans on the path of development and that the work accomplished must continue.
If you look carefully during all these years that we have just spent together, and with many achievements accomplished together, I have never seemed disappointed in great difficulties and I never will. Because I have confidence in the constant support of the population to resolve any challenge together, Kagame confided.
To the youth, Kagame recommended doing what is healthy and correct, emphasizing that this must be the culture of Rwandans. He assured them that for challenges that do not have immediate solutions, the right answers will be found soon.
It is expected that on July 20, 2024, NEC will provisionally announce the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections, while on July 27, 2024, it will announce the final results of these elections.
