Long-time Cabinet member Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya has been dismissed as Minister of Public Service and Labour, just over a month after assuming the role.
A statement released on Thursday by Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente, on behalf of President Paul Kagame, cited “matters of accountability under investigation” as the reason for Mujawamariya’s removal.
Mujawamariya, who holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry, has held several high-profile positions in the Rwandan government, including Minister of Environment, Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, and Minister of Education. She also served as Rwanda’s ambassador to Russia.
Her dismissal comes as a surprise given her extensive experience and long tenure in government. The specifics of the investigation remain undisclosed.
