Kenya’s rally driver Karan Patel navigated by Tauseef Khan were crowned 2023 ARC champions in Iringa, Tanzania over the weekend in their Ford Fiesta Rally 2 machine
Patel won the qualifying round but resisted the temptation of challenging Ugandan driver Jas Magat who won the conformatabley with four minutes41.4 seconds lead after clocking one hour , 51 minutes and 27 seconds in a Hyundai i20 R5.
The Kenya driver settled for second position and an all important continental glory, driving a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10, Hamza Anwar retained the African Junior Rally Driver Championship in third position after posting 1:59:34.6.
Jas Mangat & Juels Escartefigue won the ASAS rally of Tanzania making it their first win with the new Hyundai i20 (R5).
After receiving the victors trophy, Patel, 32 who was all smiles said that it was really an emotional moment for him and his entire crew.
“We’ve worked hard for this for a while and we’re super proud to bring the title back at home in Kenya” the champion added.
This year’s African Rally Championship (ARC) competition was a two-horse race between Patel and Magat with each passing stage in Tanzania.
