Rwandan health journalists were feted for their remarkable contributions at the 2024 ABASIRWA Excellence Awards ceremony, held on Wednesday at Kigali’s Lemigo Hotel.
Bernad Nshimyumukiza, a health reporter with the Radio Salus, was the star of the night, taking home the prestigious Journalist of the Year for HIV award in recognition of her exceptional reporting on HIV/AIDS.
Diane Nkusi, a seasoned Umuringa journalist, secured a tablet and recorder for her award-winning entry in the best feature article on HIV category.
Further, Yves Iyamuremye (Ijambo News) emerged victorious in the news reporting category, while Jean Paul Hakizimana of Igihe media house garnered the best investigative story of the year award.
Meanwhile , applause went to Emma Umurerwa for the best conducted interview, and Licien Kamanzi of Radio Izuba and television was honored for the best radio talk show.
Innocent Bahati, the Executive Secretary of ABASIRWA, lauded the journalists for their unwavering dedication throughout the year. He urged them and their colleagues to continue playing their critical role in raising public awareness about health issues through impactful reporting.
ABASIRWA, a media network dedicated to health promotion, presented the awards.
