The Ministry of Local Government has appointed Fred Hategekimana as the interim Mayor of Kayonza District, following Sunday’s dismissal of John Bosco Nyemazi and his executive committee over poor service delivery and their failure to respond to issues related to drought.
Hategekimana will now lead the district alongside the newly appointed Vice Mayor, Jules Higiro, according to the Minister of Local Government, Dominique Habimana.
Nyemazi was dismissed by the District Advisory Council on Sunday, together with his deputies — Hope Munganyinka, the Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, and Jean Damascène Harelimana, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs. All three were removed over poor service delivery.
Doreen Basiime Kalimba, Chairperson of the Kayonza District Council, confirmed the decision, saying the officials were relieved of their positions “with immediate effect” due to failures in their responsibilities.
