Former Senator Zéphyrin Kalimba passes away

Former Senator Zéphyrin Kalimba died Sunday night at King Fayçal Hospital in Kigali from natural causes, according to Vincent Bavakure, Secretary General of the Rwanda Potters’ Communities (COPORWA).

COPORWA is a local NGO that advocates for the rights of historically marginalized people. Kalimba was its leader until his election as a Senator in 2012, a post he held for eight years, until 2020. He had been appointed Senator by President Kagame.

The burial is scheduled to take place on January 06, 2022. Senate Speaker Dr Augustin Iyamuremye said he has been informed of the death of Zéphyrin Kalimba who fell ill shortly before his death.
