Local football body FERWAFA have banned Rayon Sports FC for not featuring in the recently concluded Ubutwari football tournament.
One of the the tough ban is not organizing or taking part in national and international friendly matches for a period of 12 months.
The punishment for the club will pay Rwf 300,000 and not to participate in the 2021 Ubutwari football.
Details of the ban were released by FERWAFA on its official website after the decision was made by the Executive committee in a meeting held in indoor on Friday. February 7, 2020.
The statement reads, “Basing on FERWAFA Statutes in its article 12 which states that. The violation of obligations by a member leads to sanctions provided for in the FERWAFA Regulations. The executive committee found that Rayon sports have breached the following obligations as a member of FERWAFA:
“To fully observe the Statutes, regulations, directives, and decisions of the Federation, CAF, FIFA, and to make sure these are also respected by its members. To take part in competitions and other sports activities organized by the Federation:
“Basing on the article 60 of FERWAFA Competitions regulations, The following decisions were taken by the FERWAFA Executive committee in relation to Rayon Sports conduct” statement further noted” it read.
The club pull out of the tournament on the last time, in the tournament which attract the top four clubs in the previous season.
Jean Paul Nkurunziza the clubs spokespersons had said the reason why the club protested by pulling out was because their new players had not obtained the International Transfer Certificate (ITC) or work permits.
Nkurunziza urged, “Ubutwarari Cup is not a Fifa-sanctioned tournament, the organizers[Ferwafa] should have relaxed the rules, because it would be a good opportunity to test our new signings, so we decided not to participant”
Regis Uwayezu, Secretary-General of the Rwanda Football Association has said the rules were clear and communicated to all the teams, and would not change because of one team one of the rules was that no team would be allowed to field unlicensed players.
When Rayon pulled out, FERWAFA invited SC Kiyovu to fill the gap, joining in contention winners APR, Police, and Mukura.
Meanwhile, the decision has vexed social media outrage from fans and other users with some urging the club to call for CAF and FIFA intervention.
One of them is the club president Sadat Munyakazi who wrote “
