The Eritrean National Cycling Team has unveiled its roster for the 19th African Continental Road Race Cycling Championships, set to take place from November 20 to 23 in Kwale, Kenya. The team will compete across multiple categories, fielding both experienced riders and promising young talents.
According to the Eritrean National Cycling Federation, the Elite Men’s category, will future, Olympic veteran Merhawi Kudus eading a squad that includes Meron Teshome, Nur-ahmed Abdelwahab, and Natnael Medhani.
For the Elite Men / U23 Road Race, the distance is set at 163.8 km, starting from Ukunda and finishing in Kwale, according to Confedration of African Cycling (CAC) African Road Championships 2025.
For the Under-23 men, rising stars Milkias Maekele, Mewael Girmay, Hebron Berhane, and Awet Aman are set to showcase Eritrea’s next generation of cyclists while covering a course of approximately 107.6 km, also from Ukunda to Kwale.
The women’s team, competing in both Elite and U23 divisions, features Monalisa Araya, Birkti Fisiha, Suzana Fisihaye, and Adiam Dawit. Junior categories are represented by Nahom Efrem, Keven T/Mariam, Yohannes Aklilu, and Natnael Tesfa’alem in the boys’ event, and Adiam Tesfu, Nardos Tsegay, Arsema Andebrhan, and Rozina Berhane for the girls. They will cover the same course like the Under-23 men.
A mixed‑relay event is scheduled: 14 km per gender (total 28 km) on November 21.The ITT (Individual Time Trials) for various categories includes 14 km (1 lap) and 28 km distances (2 laps) on 20 November.
Guiding the squad will be coaches Musie Asihel and Medhanie Teklemariam, whose experience is expected to be crucial to the team’s performance.
Eritrea has a strong record in the African Continental Road Race Championships.
At last year’s 18th edition in Eldoret, Kenya, Henok Mulubrhan of Astana Club won the Elite Men’s title for the third consecutive year, helping Eritrea secure a record 16 medals, surpassing the 15-medal haul in 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The team will be aiming to build on this success and continue Eritrea’s dominance on the continental stage.
