The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 pandemic in Rwanda has continued to increase as the country this Sunday registered the highest number of cases in a single day at 200 that increased the overall total to 3,089. The country also recorded its 12th death since the start of the pandemic in the country.
The latest cases were obtained from 6,402 sample tests examined on Sunday, 23 August 2020. Only one person recovered in the last 24 hours while the overall recoveries stand at 1,755 people leaving the active cases at 1,322, according to the Ministry of Health (MINISANTE).
The ministry has conducted massive testing on a daily basis which has now clocked 368,244 tests.
From the 200 new patients, 164 come from mass testing in Kigali markets; 29 come from high risk groups in Rusizi; five from Rubavu; and two from Huye. The recorded death is a 71-year-old mother from Kigali City.
The Ministry of Health continued to urge the population of the City of Kigali to redouble their efforts to avoid slackening in the face of strategies to fight COVID-19, especially as the pandemic is on the rise in the capital.
The same statement states that residents of Rusizi District can move within their district, but are not allowed to go beyond. The country has relieved some of the preventive measures like opening churches but local authorities have to check if measures are met.
