After being declared the loser by CAF for fielding a player with two yellow cards, Rwanda’s chance of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations now hangs on a thin thread if any.

In accordance with article 105 of the disciplinary code by CAF, Benin now moves to the third place of Group L level with second-placed Mozambique on four points in four matches.

Rwanda drops to bottom position and last in this group with only two points in 4 games.

With only the top two teams from the four-nations qualifying for the continental showpiece set to be in Ivory Coast, Rwanda is now stuttering..

In the last and return leg fixture, coach Carlos Alós Ferrer and his men will face  Mozambique.

The game was supposed to be held in Rwanda but the country has no stadium ready to host continental competitions, according to CAF.

In the next fixture, Amavubi will play their 5th and return leg of the group stage game against Mozambique.

For many football faithfuls, this is another disappointment. The Wasps last qualified for the continental show piece 19 years ago.
