Kenya’s women’s national team were crowned African Nations Champions for the first time since 2015, following their 3-0 win over Egypt in the finals of the Continental tournament in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Through the FIVB’s revolutionary empowerment programme, the Kenya queens have seen an improvement after winning three silver medals in 2017, 2019 and 2021. Globally, the program has empowered volleyball and beach volleyball players.
Having received an investment of 545’000 CHF since 2021, Kenya’s women’s national team has seen improved performances thanks to the appointment of elite Brazilian coaches, including Luizomar de Moura as head coach.
Speaking about Kenya’s major achievement, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said: “I offer my sincere congratulations to Kenya’s women’s national team and all the staff for such a great performance! The three silver medals they won in 2017, 2019 and 2021 are testament to Volleyball Empowerment’s effectiveness.
“Many people have noticed the huge improvements in Kenya’s team and we look forward to their next achievements on the international stage,” Luizomar said.
In the coveted straight sets, Kenya defeated Egypt 25-22, 25-20, 25-14. It’s their 10th continental title.
The win has earned them qualification for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship as the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) representatives.
As a result, they have also automatically qualified for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
