Updated climate forecasts below normal rains in first half of September

Most parts of Rwanda will expect below normal rainfall in the first half of September, according to the National Center for Meteorological Sciences, Meteo Rwanda.

The weather center has forecasted below normal rains, which is between 0-50 millimeters from the 01st to the 10th compared to average amount of rain that falls between 0 and 70 millimeters.

Below normal rainfall, which is between 40 and 50 millimeters, is also expected to fall in districts of Rubavu, in the north of Nyabihu, Burera and Musanze districts in the west of Rutsiro district.

Other areas that will receive low rainfall between 20 and 40 millimeters will be the districts of Nyamasheke, Karongi, Rutsiro, Ngororero, Nyabihu, Rusizi and Musanze, small parts of the north of Gicumbi and Nyagatare District, the west of Nyamagabe District and and the rest of Burera District.

Between 20 and 30 millimeters of rain is expected in parts of Gakenke, Muhanga, Rulindo and Gicumbi Districts, in the east of Karongi, Ngororero and Nyabihu Districts, in the west of Rusizi, Nyamagabe, Nyagatare Districts and a small area of Nyaruguru District.

Less than five millimeters (5mm) of rain is expected in most of the Eastern and Southern Provinces, most of the rest of the country is expected to receive between 10 and 20 millimeters of rain.

Wind forecast.

In the first part of the month of September 2023, the wind is expected to be between 4 meters and 10 meters per second.

Strong winds with speeds above 10 meters per second are expected in the east of Rubavu District, west of Karongi District, southwest of Rutsiro District and northeast of Nyamasheke District.

Strong winds with a speed between 8 meters and 10 meters per second are expected in Rubavu District, Rutsiro, Nyamasheke, Karongi east of Nyabihu District.

The wind is expected to be between 6 meters and 8 meters per second in the rest of the country except in Kigali City, Bugesera District, Amayaga District, Rwamagana District, in the south of Musanze District. , Rulindo, Gicumbi and Gatsibo, in the east of Gakenke, Kayonza and Ngoma Districts, in the west of Nyabihu, Ngororero Districts and in the north of Muhanga District moderate winds are expected with a speed between 4 and 6 millimeters per second.

Temperatures will be between 20 and 32 degrees Celsius the city of Kigali, Bugesera, part of Amayaga, most of the districts of Ngoma, Rusizi, Nyagatarae, part of the North-East of Gatsibo District and in the Bugarama Valley are expected to have high temperatures between 30 degrees Celsius. and 32.

In the East of Rubavu District, the North-West of Nyabihu District and Musanze District are expected to have lower temperatures between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
