Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has fired his defense minister, citing the need for “new approaches” as the war with Russia enters its 19th month.
“During this week the Parliament will decide on the matter conclusively. I made the decision to replace the Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, after 550 days in the office during the bloody conflict,” said Volodymyr Zelensky
Zelensky appointed Rustem Umerov who has been serving as a Legislator as the new Minister of Defense.
Reznikov served as Defense Minister since 2021 along being the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukrain.
Notably, there have been widespread allegations of corruption in the Ministry of Defense.
