Traffic around the City of Kigali, from where the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will take place is planned to have daily advisory for road users to facilitate delegates during the conference.
This Thursday, June 16, Rwanda National Police (RNP) has started to effectively issue advisory to facilitate the smooth movement of people ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which begins this weekend from 20 to 25 June 2022, in Kigali.
The advisory states that the road axis; Marriott Hotel – Ubumwe Grand Hotel – Muhima – Kinamba – Kigali Genocide Memorial will be reserved for delegates.
Commuters will have to take alternative routes to cross from Gisozi: ULK – Beritwari – Gaposho – Gakinjiro – Kinamba – Kacyiru or Utexirwa.
Those from the City Centre can use Onatracom – Gereza – Muhima – Nyabugogo – Poid Lourd – Kanogo- Rwandex.
RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that as CHOGM-related events kick off this Thursday, June 16, some roads will from time to time be reserved for delegates.
“In order to ensure smooth traffic flow in the City of Kigali throughout the CHOGM period, road users will be advised on the restricted roads and best alternative routes. The traffic advisory will be issued a day before so that the public can plan their journeys prior.
We urge road users to bear with the changes and to respect traffic rules and regulations. Police officers will be on the road to direct motorists,” CP Kabera said.

“The public can follow the daily traffic advisory on the RNP Twitter, website, and on various radios and television channels.
It is in our tradition as Rwandans to give decent reception to our guests; let us maintain that spirit in this CHOGM period like it was in other international meetings and events hosted by Rwanda before,” CP Kabera said.
Over 4000 delegates from the 54 member countries of the Commonwealth are expected for the upcoming CHOGM.
The meeting will also host over 30 heads of state who have confirmed their attendance, high-level government officials, business people, and academicians among others.
