Tanzania on Saturday emerged overall winner of the 8th Kwibuka Tournament by posting a 44-run win over defending champion, Kenya.
Tz women’s cricket team beat Kenya by 44 runs. The win leaves the Kenyan team short of their fifth Kwibuka title.
It was the third time and the second time since 2019 for Tanzania to become the Kwibuka women’s T20 tournament champions.
They could not participate in the 2021 edition after the majority of the national team players and the coaching staff tested positive for Covid-19.
Tanzania’s Perice Kamunya was voted player of the final match during which she made 29 runs to inspire her team to the title.
Meanwhile, Uganda secured 3rd place after beating Rwanda 50/10(17.2)Uganda 54/2(9.4) to win by 8 wickets.
Rwanda finished fourth, while Nigeria’s national women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, beat Brazil by 30 runs to finish fifth. Germany 7th after outplaying Botswana.
The 2022 competition was the 8th edition of the annual women’s cricket memorial tournament, in remembrance of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
