Amavubi forward Ernest Sugira scored the winning goal in fashion to give Cassa Mbungo his first victory as Rayon Sports FC head coach.
Sugira scored the goal on the 81 minutes of the game as Rayon edged Etincelles FC 2-1 through a comeback in the second half in a game played at Umuganda stadium, Rubavu.
The host opened the scores in the opening 16 minutes when Ibrahim Itangishak putting the ball behind the net from a pass received from compatriot Jean Bosco Akayezu.
The first 45 minutes ended with Etincelles leading.
Cassa Mbungo made some changes in the second half-hour bringing on Mirafa Nizeyimana for injured Yannick Bizimana who later on got injured and was substituted by Mugisha Gilbert.
Rayon bossed the second half, which paid off on the 78 minute with Maxime Sekamana netting the equalizer.
Three minutes later Sugira fired in the second to seal the win for the defending champions giving Mbungo his first win as new head coach.
The goal is Sugira’s second goal since leaving the foes APR FC on a six-month loan in December. The aftermentioned netted his first goal on his debut appearance when Rayon brushed off Gasogi United in January.
The victory lifts Rayon to the second position with 44 points from 21 games.
Meanwhile, law enforcers Police FC drop to the third position having suffered a 1-0 defeat to APR FC. The victory for unbeaten Military side earns them 51 points 7 ahead of Rayon.
Elsewhere, Musanze FC became the third team to defeat Sunrise FC 2-1 at Nyagatare stadium, while host Begesera FC suffered their eighth defeat this season after a1-0 loss to Marines FC.
Musanze FC now climbs to 11 places with 23 points from 21 games, while Bugesera is static in the seventh position on the table standing ahead of Marines FC but both sides remain tied on 27 points.
Heros and Gicumbi FC sit at the bottom, both with 15 points.
