During the SADC Double Troika Summit held in Lusaka, Zambia, over the weekend, leaders resolved to maintain their efforts to ensure the success of regional peace and security missions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) and Mozambique.
Among the Heads of States, Government representatives, and other officials attending the summit was President Emerson Mnangagwa.
Updates on the progress and security situation in the DR Congo and Mozambique were presented, emphasizing SADC’s steadfast support for both nations in achieving sustainable peace and security.
The regional leaders commended the ongoing peace efforts in the DR Congo and Mozambique, emphasizing that any armed attack on a member state poses a threat to the overall peace and stability of the region.
Reiterating their unwavering commitment, the summit pledged to provide both diplomatic and military assistance to the two countries.
Furthermore, the summit expressed disapproval of recent communications from Rwanda to the United Nations and the African Union Commission discouraging support for the SADC mission in the DRC.
SADC has deployed forces to the eastern DR Congo and Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique to address instability caused by military insurgencies.
