Rwandans living in Morocco, many of them students, were urged Sunday to demonstrate courage in their daily lives and to make ongoing contributions to Rwanda’s development.
The message was delivered during the 32nd Heroes’ Day celebration, held under the theme “Bravery and Unity of Rwandans, Pillars of Development.” The event was organized by the Rwandan Embassy in Morocco in collaboration with the Rwandan community in the country.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to Morocco, Shakilla Umutoni, called on the community to show bravery every day by supporting national development, improving citizens’ welfare and pursuing self-reliance. She emphasized the importance of upholding values such as patriotism, unity, integrity and hard work.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to exchange New Year greetings.
The Rwandan community in Morocco is largely composed of students and young professionals, supported by strong bilateral relations between the two countries. Members also praised the support of the Rwandan Embassy, which was established in Rabat in 2020.
The community frequently participates in national events, including Heroes’ Day, which Ambassador Umutoni attended.
Among the students in Morocco are those studying at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, where courses focus on agriculture, medicine and business.
The Rwandan Embassy assists citizens with national services such as passports, national IDs and other applications through the government’s Irembo platform. The embassy also works closely with the community to organize unity-building activities and supports their civic responsibilities, including voting.
Rwandans in Morocco also take part in cultural and sporting activities, including supporting Rwandan teams during international competitions. They were encouraged to use knowledge gained in Morocco to contribute to Rwanda’s development in education, agriculture, technology and innovation.
