Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) has re-appointed Vincent Mashami as the coach for the men’s national football team.
At the headquarters of the local FA on Friday 15th, Mashami officially signed a twelve-months contract with clear targets ahead.
The new coach and his assistants Sosthene Habimana and Rayon Sports interim coach Alain Kirasa will oversee Amavubi take on Cameroon in the international friendly game in Yaoundé, on February 24, before hosting the Red Devils of Congo Brazzaville on February 28 in Kigali.
“[Vincent] Mashami is tasked to ensure Rwanda reaches the Group stages of African Nations Championship (CHAN), qualifying the team to the AFCON, where the team still has same hope and to perform well in the qualifiers of the 2022 Qatar FIFA qualifiers,” Regis Uwzeye the Ferwafa general secretary told the media.
The sixth edition of the CHAN finals tournament is scheduled for April 4-25, with two build up games, the coach is optimistic the two international friendly games will give his team a good test.
“Let me talk this opportunity to thank FERWAFA, the Ministry of Sports, government, and Rwanda in general for entrusting me with this opportunity from the bottom of my hear: the coach said.
“We had up and downs before, it’s now time to correct what went wrong” he noted adding that a lot happens when building a team. It includes preparations, selections and all this happens behind the curtain. It requires a lot including patience and hard work to get positive results” he explained before naming his provisional side.
A 28-man squad will kick off camp on Monday, February 17 and 18 at Amahoro stadium at 40:00pm before departing for Cameroon on Wednesday February 19.
