Rwanda’s health ministry has confirmed the first case of coronavirus following an Indian who arrived in the country from Mumbai, India, on March 8 2020 tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to a statement from the Ministry, the patient had no symptoms upon arrival in Rwanda and reported himself to a health facility on 13 March, where he was immediately tested.

“He is currently under treatment in stable condition, isolated from other patients. The tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management,” reads the statement.

The Ministry reminds that all residents of Rwanda should continue to observe all instructions from health authorities, particularly by washing hands regularly, avoiding large gatherings, and reporting any symptoms by calling the toll-free number 114.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) is affecting 147 countries and territories around the world as of March 13, 2020.
