A shocking act of robbery and violence occurred Thursday night in Nyamirambo, Rwampara, Nyarugenge District when three men allegedly attacked a woman, leaving her on the ground. One of the assailants, wearing an orange T-shirt and a jacket, reportedly struck the victim twice with what is seen as a machete while snatching her belongings.
In the video of the incident, which is streaming widely on social media, the victim can be heard screaming as the attack unfolds. The source who filmed the incident revealed that the victim was stripped of her phone and other personal items during the assault.
Authorities have confirmed that one of the suspects has been arrested, while the police are still hunting for the other two, according to a statement released Friday morning. “We assure the public that we are doing everything possible to ensure they are arrested,” the police said
After the attack, the victim was taken to Rwampara Health Centre for treatment. She has since been discharged and is now at home, the police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Wellars Gahonzire, told the media.
The viral video sparked outrage online, with social media users tagging the Rwandan National Police ( @rwandanationalpolice, @ribrwanda) and urging swift action. Community members have stressed the need for public accountability, calling for the suspects to face the full extent of the law and for their weapons to be confiscated.
The incident has heightened concerns about public safety in Nyamirambo, particularly regarding violent street robberies and attacks involving weapons.
