Paul Rusesabagina, suspected founder and leader of rebel groups has been arrested by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB). He was this morning paraded in front of cameras to confirm his arrest and is said to be detained at Remera Police Station.
“Rusesabagina is suspected to be the founder, leader, sponsor and member of violent, armed, extremist terror outfits including MRCD and PDR-Ihumure, operating out of various places in the region and abroad,” RIB tweeted while announcing his arrest.
According to RIB, Rusesabagina was arrested through ‘international cooperation’. He has been subject of an International Arrest Warrant, wanted to answer charges of serious crime including terrorism, arson, kidnap and murder, perpetrated against unarmed, innocent Rwandan civilians on Rwandan territory including in Nyabimata – Nyaruguru district in June 2018 and in Nyungwe – Nyamagabe district in December 2018.
The suspected 66-year-old will likely remain detained at the police station while pending processing of his case file.
Paul Rusesabagina is the former manager of Hotel des Mille Collines that inspired the controversial Hollywood made movie Hotel Rwanda.
