Tributes are pouring in for Pastor Ezra Mpyisi, a beloved figure in the Rwandan community, who peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 27th, at the age of 102.
Pastor Mpyisi was not only a respected elder within the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he served as a pastor for decades, but also a champion of Rwanda’s cultural heritage. In 2001, he co-founded Inteko Izirikana, an association dedicated to educating the youth about the country’s traditional values and customs.
“For many of us,” shared a grieving member of Inteko Izirikana, “Pastor Mpyisi wasn’t just a teacher, he was a living link to our past. He embodied the wisdom and spirit of our ancestors, and he tirelessly shared that knowledge with the next generation.”
Pastor Mpyisi celebrated his 100th birthday on February 19th, 2022 at an event which was marked by joyous celebrations within the community, a testament to the deep affection and respect he commanded.
Beyond his dedication to Inteko Izirikana, Pastor Mpyisi was known for his unwavering faith and commitment to his parishioners. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and unwavering dedication to both his community and his beliefs.
“His absence will be deeply felt,” stated a spokesperson for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Rwanda. “Pastor Mpyisi was a pillar of our faith, a shepherd who guided his flock with compassion and wisdom. We are grateful for his life and the countless lives he touched.”
As news of his passing spreads, tributes continue to pour in from across Rwanda and beyond. Pastor Ezra Mpyisi’s legacy as a cultural steward, spiritual leader, and beloved community figure will surely live on in the hearts and minds of those he touched.
