Top officials of Rwanda Education Board (REB) including its Director General Dr Irénée Ndayambaje have been suspended for failure to properly manage and coordinate the ongoing teacher recruitment process.
On this Monday night, Dr Ndayambaje was suspended along his deputy Angelique Tumusiime and James Ngoga, the Head of Teacher Development and Management Department.
The Prime Minister’s Office listing the three officials in a tweet statement said, “The following officials from @Rwanda_Edu have been suspended from their duties for failure to properly manage and coordinate the ongoing teacher recruitment process.”
No more details were given about the suspensions.
However the latest action comes as schools reopened countrywide a move that requires more teachers to be able to cater for the more than 22,500 classes being constructed. Government had embarked on recruitment of more teachers but the process has been marred by controversies.
