Rayon Sport FC made history yesterday as they recorded their first ever victory against arch rival and decorated side APR FC in four years following a 1-0 defeat at Huye International Stadium.

The game started with high intensity with Rayon Sports in control of the game, giving the fans a measure of revenge for the last conservative defeats by APR.

A sufficient Eric Ngendiman goal of the game on the 33nd minute set the stadium in euphoria as local Blue’s walked with all three points on Day 19 of the Rwanda Premier League.

The first opening 45 minutes ended with Rayon leading the game, while the second half was steaming chaos on the pitch, skewering, tackles, crunching limbs and collisions on the pitch as APR attempted to find an equalizer.

Rayon head coach Christian Francis Haringingo made some changes in defense at a key moment by introducing his captain Abdul Rwatubyaye who was out of action with a lengthy injury to strengthen the backline.

APR brought on Anice Ishimwe and Fiston Ishimwe for Djabel Manishimwe and Lague Byiringiro, respectively, to strengthen the army side’s defence but the subs did little to change the results Despite the win, Francis Haringingo and his side remain fourth with 36 points on the table but the win gives them momentum to move level on points with Gasogi United and AS Kigali who are ahead on goal difference.

APR remains at the top of the table with 37 points.

Elsewhere, action also took place away in Eastern Province with Bugesera FC drewing 1-all with Musanze

Gisenyi based side Enticelles beat Espoirt FC 2-0, and Sunrise lost 1-2 to Marine FC on Saturday.

Gasogi United drew 2-all with Rutsiro FC, Kiyovu Sports collected all three points when they beat Rwamagana FC 2-1 on Friday, while Gorilla FC lost 0-1 to AS Kigali,Police FC defeated Huye- based side Mukura 1-0.
