Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente has urged students graduating from the University of Rwanda to embody good character and uphold Rwandan values, avoiding any form of misconduct wherever they go.
Dr. Ngirente made the remarks on Friday, October 25, 2024, during the 10th graduation ceremony at the University of Rwanda, held at the Huye College.
“What I ask of you, especially as young people graduating from different courses, is to embody the values of a good Rwandan, avoid misconduct wherever you go, demonstrate integrity and dedication to work in all your endeavors, collaborating with others to love and serve your country,” he advised.
He also praised the University of Rwanda for improving the quality of education, noting that it now attracts international students who are pleased with the knowledge they receive.
“I cannot fail to sincerely thank the leadership of the University of Rwanda for enhancing the quality of education, such that among these graduating students are many from other countries who appreciate the education they have received here,” he added.
He encouraged the leadership of the University of Rwanda and the Ministry of Education to continue investing in improving educational quality to better assist students across various levels.
This 10th graduation ceremony saw 8,176 students complete their studies in various fields, including education, health, agriculture, and media technology.
Among the graduates, about 100 students came from 24 different countries.
Fiona Mukamaria, a graduate in social sciences, expressed gratitude to her parents for their support throughout her educational journey.
“I first thank God, but I particularly want to thank my parents for their hard work in raising me and supporting my education from preschool through to university,” she said.
She added that after graduation, she aims to work with other Rwandans to build the country in all her future endeavors, applying the values she has learned.
“What I take to the job market is a commitment to avoid creating divisions in the workplace, to avoid laziness, and instead prioritize hard work and collaboration with those I will work with,” she noted.
