President Paul Kagame opened a two-day cabinet retreat, colloquially known as Umwiherero, at the Intare Conference Arena in Rusororo, Gasabo this Tuesday afternoon.
Gathering cabinet members and top officials, the retreat aims to steer Rwanda’s trajectory towards socioeconomic transformation.
The retreat holds particular significance as Rwanda approaches the 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, alongside impending Presidential and Legislative elections in July.
Umwiherero, a term steeped in Rwandan tradition, denotes a communal reflection where leaders convene to deliberate on issues affecting their communities. Rooted in the culture’s ethos, these gatherings serve to pinpoint challenges and foster commitments to tangible solutions.
Today, Umwiherero has evolved into a distinctive governance instrument, fostering a culture of accountability among the nation’s leaders. It offers a platform for introspection, enabling a comprehensive assessment of national progress and the formulation of strategies to expedite the fulfillment of core objectives while addressing persistent challenges.
