The 2020 Nyirangarama Sprint Rally championship will tip-off as the opening round of this year’s motor-sport calendar when the crews start their ambitions on March 21st.

The one-day rally event will take center stage on the roads of Kinini, Cyinzizi, and Tumba covering a total distance of 151.8 km.

The year’s edition of the annual rally is majorly sponsored by Enterprise Urwbutso Nyirangarama   in partnership with Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) as well as Rulindo district.

“Over ten local drivers have been invited while eight are expected to come from neighboring Burundi for the competition” said Eric Nzamwita who is in charge of the organization

Thierry Kalisa who was representing Enterprise Urwibutso Nyirangarama said they’re honored to be sponsoring a rally for the third time since the event helps to raise the image of Rulindo district.

Last year, fourteen crews registered for the rally that was later won by Davite Giancarlo. Mohamed Roshanali and Elefter Mitraros followed in second and third position while Din Imtiaz came fourth.

Four national rally series will be organized according to the 2020 national rally championship, which was released by Rwanda Automobile Rwanda last month.

Mountain Gorilla Rally will be the second rally series to be staged this year, it will also run as part of the third round of the Africa Rally Champion (ARC) between May 15-17.

The annual Huye Rally, which takes place in Southern Province has been scheduled as the third event between September 5-7.

Meanwhile the last round of the national rally championship will be Rallye des Mille Collines slated between November 14-15.

In addition to the guidelines, all crews will be eligible to participate in all the rounds, the series will run under Rwanda National Rally regulations and points will be awarded according to the national point structure.

Jean Claude Gakwaya was crowned as the 2019 national champion. The Subaru Impreza driver collected 89 points having won four rally events last year including Huye Rally, WIRM Sprint Rally in addition to the Mountain Gorilla Rally.
