Three people were killed on the spot in Nyagatare district after a truck carrying gas rammed into five people, including pedestrians and motorcyclists.
The accident happened at about 7:30 pm on Monday, in Rwimiyaga Village, Nyarupfubire Cell, Rwimiyaga Sector.
SP Hamdun Twizeyimana the spokesperson for Eastern Province Police confirmed three died while the others got injured.
“The accident was caused by a truck driver who after trying to evade a motorist rammed it into people under the road.” He added.
“This truck had finished offloading gas at the SP Rwamagana Station, heading to Kagitumba, when it arrived at the crush site, the driver tried to surpass a motorist on the road, but failed to control the vehicle which over turned ramming into the people under the road including pedestrians and bikers.”
Immediately after the accident, two people lost their lives, six others sustained injuries, including one who was critically injured.
