Muslims around the world are preparing for a joyous celebration of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, which falls on Sunday, June 16th.
The Rwanda Muslim Community (RMC) announced earlier this week that the national prayer service will be held at the iconic Kigali Pelé Stadium starting at 6:00 am, led by His Eminence Sheikh SINDAYIGAYA Mussa, the Mufti of Rwanda.”
This year’s Eid, according to the management of RMC, will hold special significance as the government has declared Monday, June 17th a public holiday, allowing everyone to fully participate in the festivities.
“The Rwanda Muslim Community (RMC) extends heartfelt congratulations to all Muslims and Rwandans in general on this auspicious occasion.” the announcement further read.
Eid al-Adha marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the five pillars of Islam. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) unwavering faith and willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command. Ultimately, God spares Ishmael and provides a ram as a substitute.
This act of sacrifice inspires the tradition of sacrificing an animal, typically a goat, sheep, or cow, during Eid al-Adha. The meat is then shared with family, friends, and those in need, embodying the spirit of generosity and compassion.
