Mubarakh Muganga promoted to full General

The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Mubarakh Muganga until today has been promoted to the rank of four-star general by President Paul Kagame, the Commander-in-Chief.

According to a statement released by RDF, Mubarakh Mugangathe was promoted to a four-star general on Wednesday, December 20.

Gen Muganga is one of the most experienced soldiers in the military. On June 05, 2023, he replaced General Jean Bosco Kazura as the army commander.

Gen Muganga’s military career spans over 30 years, during which he has earned medals in various categories.

He was the commander of the Fourth Division and in 2013-2015 he was the Commander of the Third Division in the RDF.

From 2016 to 2021, he was the commander of the 1st Division commanding the City of Kigali together with the Eastern Province.

He studied military training in combat planning at the National Defense University of PLA in 2012. In the same year, he also studied military management and military courses, and strategic management at Tsinghua University and China Military University.

 In 2008, he attended the African Strategy Course, at the Nasser Military Academy in Egypt, the course on International Peacekeeping Operations, and a course on the Mission of High Commands at the Peace Support Training Center in Kenya where he studied in 2007.

Among the medals that Gen Muganga received were the National Liberation Medal, the Stop Genocide Medal, the President’s Oath Medal, the Medal for Helping a Country Outside of It, and the Ribbon (worn in the left shirt pocket) for fighting in the war, for the actions of the war, and for the community.
