Mountain Gorilla Rally gets yellow card over safety as 2023 calendar is approved

The 2023 Africa Rally Championship (ARC) has been confirmed; with the Mountain Gorilla Rally as the seventh round series on the continent, according to a calendar released by FIA.

Running from February to September, the 2023 ARC calendar will maintain a seven round agenda however; the calendar comes with date changes for some events.

Rallye Côte d’Ivoire Bandama in Ivory Coast was maintained as the transitional season opener due 24-26 February.

TBA Equator Rally Kenya was retained as the second round in April. The popular Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally series will run in May between 5th and 7th.

Zambia International Rally will be the fourth round of the continental series lined up from 23th and 25th.

The Tanzania Rally is the fifth this season. The event will run in July between 21-23.

Subject to the observer ‘s report, Rallye International du Burundi will be the second last on the calendar. The event will run from August 18th to 20th.

Meanwhile, the notable change reflects in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally which is programmed to wind up the season.

The event will run in September from 22nd to 24th. It was the third championship round series last season.

Even though Mountain Gorilla Rally upholds the month of September, it will as a substitute play the penultimate round this season.

According to the Federation International Automobile (FIA), the Rwanda motorsport event will be run under a yellow card following various safety issues in last year’s event.

The event organized by Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC)  must improve safety measures or risk losing the ARC round in future.

For the first time, Rwanda has received an FIA safety warning. Other countries that have received a caveat include Uganda but went on to improve by making changes.
