The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, received on June 9, 2021, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. PéterSzijjártó.

The two Ministers welcomed the excellent relations between Morocco and Hungary, underlining the importance of further strengthening them through new areas of cooperation.

Mr. Szijjártó commended the course set by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in a dynamic of openness, progress and modernity and hailed the New Development Model and the promotion of the kingdom’s advanced regionalization.

Regarding the Moroccan Sahara, the Hungarian Minister reiterated his country’s support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan and for the efforts undertaken by the kingdom for the development of the southern provinces.

Mr. Szijjártó praised Morocco’s serious and credible actions as a regional pole of stability and a privileged partner for development in Africa, in favor of a new model of South-South cooperation. In this sense, the two ministers agreed on the importance of promoting triangular cooperation between Morocco, Hungary and their partners in the African continent.

Mr. Bourita and Mr. Szijjártó insisted on the need to develop cooperation, partnership and dialogue between the EU and its southern neighbourhood and with the Euro-African area, in order to provide common responses to all the challenges these regions face, particularly in terms of security, stability, migration, socio-economic and human development.

Mr. Szijjártó congratulated Morocco, a strategic partner of the European Union, for its decisive and exemplary role in the fight against irregular immigration and terrorism.

At the end of this meeting, Mr. Bourita and Mr. Szijjártó announced the mutual recognition of the vaccination certificates issued by the authorities of the two countries and proceeded with the signing of several agreements to strengthen the legal framework between Morocco and Hungary.
