Low rainfall expected across Rwanda in August could affect Season C farming activities as soil moisture levels continue to decline during the dry season, the Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) said.
In its August 2026 weather outlook, Meteo Rwanda forecast rainfall between 5 and 100 millimetres across the country, below the normal average for the month.
The agency said daytime temperatures are expected to range between 21°C and 32°C, while nighttime temperatures will likely remain between 10°C and 18°C. Moderate winds are also expected, with speeds ranging between 4 and 12 metres per second.
The forecast follows a relatively dry July, during which 29 of 44 rainfall monitoring stations recorded rainfall below the normal average for the month.
Meteo Rwanda said rainfall recorded in July ranged from 0.5 millimetres to 96.6 millimetres. The highest amount was measured at the Busogo ISAE station in Musanze District, while the lowest was recorded at Nyagatare station and Kansi station in Gisagara District.
The agency said temperatures in August could be slightly above the normal average, a situation that may contribute to further loss of soil moisture and reduced water availability in some areas.
Meteo Rwanda said the limited rainfall experienced in July supported harvesting activities and helped protect Season B crops, but affected Season C preparations due to reduced moisture in the soil.
Continued dry conditions in August could further affect farming activities under Season C, the agency said.
Meteo Rwanda advised farmers, institutions and the public to continue monitoring updated weather information, including six-hourly forecasts as well as daily, five-day, seven-day and 10-day outlooks.
