Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso of Lesotho is on her first official visit to Rwanda, focusing on health, education and youth development. The trip began on Wednesday, 03 December 2025.
On Thursday, she visited the Imbuto Foundation, a nonprofit supporting education, health programs and initiatives for girls. She was welcomed by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, who briefed the queen on the foundation’s work and its impact.

Earlier, the queen met with officials from Rwanda’s Ministry of Health, who outlined the country’s progress in expanding universal health care, improving vaccine access and strengthening basic medical infrastructure.
Later in the day, she visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, paying tribute to more than 1 million victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. She was also briefed on Rwanda’s post-genocide recovery and reconciliation efforts.
Queen Masenate praised Rwanda’s health sector achievements and improved vaccine delivery systems. She said she was deeply moved by the genocide’s impact and commended Rwanda for promoting unity, reconciliation and resilience.
Lesotho officials said the visit aims to learn from Rwanda’s cervical cancer prevention program, including HPV vaccination, and its use of drones to deliver blood and medical supplies.
Lesotho Health Minister Selibe Mochoboroane said the trip provides an opportunity for his country’s health professionals to study Rwanda’s medical technologies. He added that the two nations’ proximity strengthens cooperation and said Lesotho plans to send farmers to Rwanda to learn from its modern agriculture practices.
