The 11th edition of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 International Tournament is underway in Kigali, with host nation Rwanda and defending champions Uganda making strong starts in the early matches.

The tournament, running from June 3 to 14, features nine teams: Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Cameroon, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Brazil, and a Zimbabwe High Performance XI.

Hosts Rwanda began their campaign with a dominant 91-run victory over Cameroon, followed by a 55-run win against Sierra Leone. These results place them in a strong position in the round-robin stage.

Favourites Uganda, the defending champions, showcased their prowess with a 10-wicket win over Cameroon, chasing down the target in just 4.5 overs.

Other notably  matches, Tanzania secured a 105-run victory against Sierra Leone and a narrow 6-run win over Malawi in a rain-affected match.

Brazil achieved a 7-wicket win over Malawi and a 5-run victory against Nigeria in a match reduced to 12 overs due to rain and Zimbabwe High Performance XI edged out Nigeria by 6 runs in a closely contested match.

The tournament continues with round-robin matches until June 12, followed by the semi-finals on June 13 and the final on June 14. All matches are being held at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium and Gahanga B Ground in Kigali.

The annual Kwibuka Tournament commemorates the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and serves as a platform to promote peace and unity through sport.
