Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), main gauge of inflation increased by 6.4 percent year on year in December 2023 down from 9.2 percent in November 2023.
Data from the National Institute of Statistics (NISR) shows that in December 2023, food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 11.7 percent on annual basis and it decreased by 6.2 percent on monthly basis.
Transport increased by 6.7 percent on annual basis and it jumped to 1.5 percent on monthly basis.
Additionally, data also shows the “local products” increased by 6 percent on annual change and it decreased by 3 percent on monthly basis, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 7.8 percent on annual basis and it decreased by 1 on monthly basis.
The prices of the “fresh products” increased by 11 percent on annual change and it decreased by 9.5 percent on monthly basis.
Energy prices elevated by 0.5 percent on annual change and it decreased by 3.4 percent on monthly basis.
The prices of the general Index excluding fresh products and energy increased by 5.7 percent on annual change and it decreased by 0.1 percent on monthly basis.
