Giancarlo Davite, the national motorsport driver, got a big push to extend his chances of a first African Rally Championship.
The ace driver co-navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel finished third in the prestigious Pearl of African Uganda Rally to extend his lead to 54 points; 24 points clear of Ugandan driver Jas Mangata.
Both Mangata and Jasmeet Chana (Kenya) are tied in the second position with 30 points.
The Ugandan driver had an assertive two days of racing that ended with victory in the pearl of Africa Uganda rally.
Maxime Wahome and last year’s ARC2 champion Yasin Nasser (Uganda) are ranked fourth with 21 points, while Anwar Hamza (Kenya) has 19 points in the sixth position.
Paras Pandya from Kenya and Jr Kaka from Uganda are ranked 7th and 8th respectively.
FIA Vice President in charge of Africa, Surinder Thatthi noted that the inclusion of classes is to widen the scope of competition.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s racing couple Leroy and Urshlla Gomes who made the best out of the Pearl rally with a strong second-place finish secured valuable points for this year’s ARC title chase.
The couple led the ARC rankings with 78 points; 33points clear of rival Karan Patel (Kenya) after three events.
The next ARC event will head to Tanzania on the 22-24th July.
