Jean-Marie-Vianney Gatabazi was last night reinstated as the Governor of the North Province having been suspended in May 2020 alongside the Southern Province Governor, Emmanuel Gasana for accountability issues.
Announcing the reinstatement of Gatabazi, President Kagame also appointed Alice Kayitesi as the new Governor of the Southern Province.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office reads; “Pursuant to the Law n 14/2013 or 25/03/2013 determining the organization and functioning of the Province especially in its article 9”
“His Excellency The President has reinstated Mr. Jean Marie Vianney GATABAZl, Governor of Northern Province; and appointed Ms. Alice Kayitesi as Governor of Southern Province.”
Until her appoint as the new Governor, Ms. Kayitesi has been serving as the Mayor of Kamonyi since 2017. Previously, she was an official in Muhanga district.
