United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed François Batalingaya of Rwanda as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Chad, with the approval of the host Government. Additionally, he will assume the role of Humanitarian Coordinator, commencing his duties on March 15, 2024.

With three decades of experience in international development and humanitarian assistance, Batalingaya brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. Currently serving as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Comoros, he previously held the position of Head at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Central African Republic.

Prior to his tenure with the United Nations, he contributed significantly to various non-profit organizations across Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda, and the United States. Notably, he served as the Country Director of World Vision International, spearheading the organization’s humanitarian, emergency, and development initiatives.

Batalingaya’s academic qualifications include a doctorate in public health policy from Walden University, a post-graduate diploma in humanitarian assistance from Fordham University, and a master’s degree in public health from Tulane University. His diverse background and extensive experience position him well to effectively fulfill his responsibilities in Chad.
