Friends as well as social media have reported that former director of Tour of Rwanda Jean-Claude Hérault have died on Thursday at age of 78 due to Covid-19.
Jean Claude was popular in Rwanda as the director of the popular Tour of Rwanda from 2010 to 2018.
He was always in the first car talking on radio while leading the peloton all the way from opening stage to the closing of the race, his main purpose was to serve as the race’s literal director.
During his eight years in Rwanda he was mainly prominent as the man who ensured the support, team, and other accompanying cars as well as the whole tour experience would not be much more perilous, chaotic and disorganized for both the riders and the spectators.
Jean-Claude Hérault was also one of the precursors for cycling on the African continent; he had resumed with ASO the Tour du Faso in 2001, then created with the former professional Philippe Crépel the Tropical Amissa Bongo in Gabon.
He also launched the International Peace Tour in Côte d’Ivoire before getting involved in the organization of the Tour of Rwanda.
His death has caused a lot of friends and family much pain. It is in that mourning spirit that the concerned persons have taken to social media to share tributes to the deceased and condolences to the affected family.
